Founded in 2017, Northern Plains Weather Services, LLC is led by Dr. Matthew Bunkers, a Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM) with over 34 years of experience in weather analysis and forecasting (most of it with NOAA/NWS). Matt also did weekend television weather broadcasts for his local ABC station early in his career.

Background

Growing up on a dairy farm in eastern South Dakota, Dr. Bunkers developed a passion for meteorology, problem-solving, and helping others. This dedication led him to earn his CCM designation from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in 2017 (#731)—a certification that recognizes high standards of technical expertise, character, and experience in the field of meteorology.

Professional Affiliations

Dr. Bunkers has been an active member of several professional organizations, including:

✅ National Weather Association (NWA) (since 1994)
✅ Association of Certified Meteorologists (ACM) (since 2018)

The CCM program is a service for the general public by the AMS. The Society has established high standards of technical competence, character, and experience for certified consultants who provide meteorological advice to the public.
